Having burst onto our style radar as a vampish goth with a subversive style back in 1998, Angelina Jolie has never left it. These days, now a working mum-of-six and a globe-trotting, humanitarian activist, she still works edgy black and leather into her red carpet wardrobe, but glamorous, grown-up gowns and cocktail dresses are now a standard part of her trademark look.

After more than two decades in show business, Angelina Jolie has made a name for herself as an actor, producer, humanitarian and, of course, a red carpet chameleon.

Whether the Academy Award-winner is rocking a menswear-inspired tux, a full-length ball gown. Or showing some leg (as she most infamously did at the 2012 Oscars). Angie keeps things simple, sexy and never fails to bring her signature edge to the red carpet.

Make-up and Hair

Her hair and makeup are always utterly glam too. She is the queen of the bouncy blowout . Often sporting bombshell curls and sophisticated updos, while her go-to crimson pout is always on point.

In the early red carpet days, she drew inspiration from Elvira’s goth looks, including the black long-sleeved Versace gown she wore to the 2000 Academy Awards.

The Red Carpet Fashion at the Film

The Salt actress famously made a style statement the following year, wearing then-husband Billy Bob Thornton’s blood in a vial around her neck for the Original Sin premiere. Talk about originality in fashion.

In the coming years, Jolie played with colour, wearing a canary yellow St. John gown for the Ocean’s Thirteen premiere in 2007.  A flowing green Max Azria Atelier number at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008 and a sequin emerald dress by Atelier Versace at the 2011 Golden Globes.

The Iconic Black Dress and Other Stunning Looks

But 2012 is the year she formally stepped into her role as a style icon. The star made the entrance of all entrances at the Oscars, rocking a black strapless Versace gown. And Jolie, who repeatedly popped her leg out, made sure nobody missed that thigh-high slit!

She went through a champagne phase in 2014 and 2015, wearing a sparkly Elie Saab number to the Academy Awards. While a beaded column dress for the AFI Festival.

After years in the spotlight, Angelina Jolie has amassed an impressive wardrobe, but the Oscar-winning actress-director doesn’t let her old outfits sit around collecting dust. Jolie’s children have first dibs when it comes to her vintage fashions. At the premiere of her Marvel film Eternals, her daughters Shiloh and Zahara arrived alongside their mom wearing pieces from her fashion archives. With Zahara in the gilded Elie Saab haute couture gown that Jolie wore to the 2014 Academy Awards ceremony.  Shiloh, sporting a modified version of the Gabriela Hearst poplin slip, the “Quillaume” dress the star wore back in July at Guerlain’s “Women for Bees” initiative event. Jolie wore an olive green floor-length, strapless gown that she paired with a string of bracelets, simple earrings and a silver lip cuff. Her matching pointed-toe heels could be seen peering out from the bottom of her gown. Jolie brought the drama.

In particular, stylist Jason Bolden accessorized the ensemble with vintage golden bangles Tiffany & Co. and the unexpected addition of a gilded cuff that hugged Jolie’s lower lip and chin. The daring appearance is a reflection of the otherworldly nature of her immortal warrior character, Thena. And the forward-thinking ethos that’s come to define her current fashion choices. Given how cool Jolie’s statement jewellery looked, it’s only a matter of time before one of her stylish Gen-Z kids borrows it.
