Red Carpet

The Disney star, Dove Cameron, stunned at the Billboard Music Awards 2022 in a red number by New York-based label Ashlyn. Her dress is part of Ashlyn’s spring 2022 collection, titled ‘Capturing the Now’. The up-and-coming American brand was the LVMH prize finalist (2022).

The fitted strapless gown with a red curvaceous bodice with the center that sort of pulls apart, almost like Pangea. The bodice is a sort of sheer which exposes the cleavage and the midriff. The bodice keeps curving and then falls into a large bodacious skirt where the hips are accentuated. It can be described as a push tighter wedged version of the pannier skirt. Instead of pennies, they sort of folding out and creating a big box. This creates a slight robust exaggeration of the hips. But higher and pushed up, the red degrades into a light and sort of sheet of red which exposes a beige little skirt underneath the gown.

The American singer wore a custom strapless gown GCDS with opaque cups at the neckline but they are scalloped, which is intriguing. There is a boned corset which is sheerer than opaque with a white band underneath which creates a much sharper hourglass figure.

The corset should have been beige, which would be better for the illusion. Along with rib-knit sleeves which are stitched and seamed layered with a quilted vibe.  Whereas the two-piece outfit is attached at the waist. On the bottom, a short rib-knit skirt is well-fitted with elements of red with the white aspects of yarn to add subtlety.

Jack Harlow

Not a fashion boy, Jack Harlow wears a classic dark look Musika. It is a dark grey wool suit with black lapels with a black button-down shirt, a black tie, and then a band that wraps around the jacket.

American rapper, Latto adorns a custom ZIGMAN. While the centerpiece of the gown is a plastic and patent glassy material with a corset bodice that cuts in, creating a pelvic shape. Whereas the neckline has draped fabric that creates a bust cup area, which is quite lucky. The gathered fabric at the top is background fodder with the saving grace of the mermaid skirt along the train.

Just 16 months after Olivia Rodrigo shot to stardom with the smash single “ Driver’s License,” the teen phenomenon was the top winner at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. Rodrigo won seven awards, one of the strongest showings by a new artist in BBMA history.

During the broadcast, Doja Cat was named top R&B artist and later won best R&B album for Planet Her. Megan Thee Stallion is the top female rap artist.

Janet Jackson presented Mary J. Blige with the Billboard Icon Award.

Before the live broadcast, some awards were given where, among those early winners, Drake is the top artist.

Moreover, Drake won a total of five early awards, including top male artist. And top rap album for Certified Lover Boy. While Rodrigo’s seven wins also include top Hot 100 artist, top streaming songs artist, and top Billboard 200 album for SOUR.

Taylor Swift has four wins so far, including top Billboard 200 artist.

BTS Historic Wins

The K-Pop group, BTS yet again, made history as they bagged top titles at the Billboard Music Awards 2022. The seven-member group was nominated in six categories this year.

The K-Pop group BTS bagged three awards at the show, which is more than any other group or duo this year. They won top duo/group for the third time, putting them in a tie with One Direction for most wins in the category.

BTS also bagged Top Song Sales Artist and Top Selling Song for their superhit track ‘Butter’. The K-Pop band has won in these categories for the second time in two consecutive years.

According to reports, the boy band, which Jin, Suga, RM, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, have won 12 Billboard Music Awards.

Unlike the last 5 years, BTS members couldn’t attend the 2022 Billboard Music Awards and did not perform at the mega show. The seven members of the boy band were in Las Vegas in April for their four-day Permission to Dance on Stage concert. However, they couldn’t return to the city for the 2022 BBMAs ceremony.

BTS Army Reaction

The ARMY( the name of the BTS fans)  congratulated BTS on the historic win. They declared, “BTS paved the way.” One wrote, “Congratulations on winning three awards, well deserved and much more. Seven Kings.” Meanwhile, others applauded them for breaking a record set by Destiny’s Child. Interestingly, it had Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams as its members. The group had officially disbanded in 2006.

Despite BTS’ historic win, ARMY still has not forgiven Billboard for questioning the success of the K-pop group. In BTS’ last Billboard interview, the ARMY was indirectly accused of manipulating the charts in their favor by mass-buying their songs. This came after their English song Butter, released in May 2021, became the longest-ranking no 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after topping it for 10 weeks.

The Army Is Still Upset

ARMY continues to be upset about it, and also questioned Billboard about their decision to remove the Top Social Artist category without any explanations. The Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist, introduced in 2011, is one of three fan-voted categories in the award show, based on major fan interactions, music streams, and social engagement, combined with the global online voting results. BTS have won the award for five consecutive years and could have matched Justin Bieber’s record of six wins if they won in the category this year.

ARMY questions Billboard’s intentions behind this, with one writing. “This year would have been 4 wins if the Billboards weren’t under  threat and decide to scrap for Top Social Artist.” Another asked, “So the Top Social Artists award is eliminated from the category this year with unknown reason/official reason?” A third one wrote, “So obvious why BB canceled the Top Social Artist award.”

It wasn’t the most scintillating parade of performances.  But the 2022 Billboard Music Awards should be given a commendation for casting a truly diverse lineup.

From soul throwbacks Silk Sonic to Latin pop star Becky G to onetime country pariah Morgan Wallen, the show hopscotched genres for three hours, offering a breakout turn from Atlanta rapper Latto, a tribute to Michael Jackson delivered by the eternally poised Maxwell and a surprise performance from host Sean “Diddy” Combs.

It has also highlighted stage turns by Florence + The Machine; Megan Thee Stallion; Ed Sheeran (joining from his concert in Belfast, Northern Ireland).

Unlike its celebratory peers, the Billboard Music Awards basis is not on subjective voting by music industry insiders. Or even fans, but the deciding facts lies in hard numbers. Specifically, their showings on the Billboard charts, including album and digital song sales, streaming and radio airplay.

Diddy Kicks Things Off With Some Special Guests

Before taking to the stage for a fun, jubilant monologue.  Diddy kicked things off with a star-packed musical medley featuring himself, his son Justin Combs, Bryson Tiller, Jack Harlow, Teyana Taylor, and Taylor’s 6-year-old daughter, Junie.

Megan Thee Stallion Brings the Heat

The 27-year-old wowed the Billboard audience.  With her fiery performance of “Plan B.” He was dressed in a black cutout bodysuit,- the singer performed her recently released single, while literal flames blasted behind her. She also twerked and rapped her verse to her and Dua Lipa’s hit, “Sweetest Pie.”

Silk Sonic Takes Us for a Smooth Ride

If there’s one thing you can expect from a Silk Sonic performance. It’s retro class and nostalgic perfection, and that’s what fans got with their performance of “Love Train”. Just flawless ’70s crooning that is every bit as smooth as their name would lead you to expect.

Mary J. Blige Is an Icon for a Reason

Blige was honored with the prestigious ICON award, which was presented by Janet Jackson.  And the music superstar reflected on the true meaning of an “icon”. And how hard she’s has put in the work to achieve the status. “The way the world is now, I think people think icons are born that way. That they become a legend overnight, but that is not the case. It takes a lot of time, hard work, and a lot of surviving, trial and error, to achieve greatness,” she shared.  Later adding, “The message of my music has always been that we are not alone in our struggles and I’m not alone now. For so long I was searching for real love, but I finally found my real love — and that real love is me.”

Machine Gun Kelly Shares a Special Dedication

The rock star took to the stage and before he sang his hit song, “Twin Flame.”  He dedicated the performance to not only his “wife,” Megan Fox, but their “unborn child”. This has got fans freaking out with speculation online. Alluding to the fact that he and Fox may have already, secretly tied the knot. MGK said, “I wrote this song for my wife.” Then, partway through his performance, Kelly stopped to dedicate the song. Mainly, to “my unborn child.” Still, it’s unclear how literal MGK was.

As is often the case with high-profile award shows, the ceremony didn’t go by without incident, with Travis Scott and Morgan Wallen inviting controversy with their performances.

Wallen was participating in his first major awards presentation. After being under scrutiny for  uttering a racial slur on camera in February 2021.  An incident that resulted in his record label suspending him. And his songs are being pulled from several major American radio stations.

After not receiving a verbal introduction, the country musician sat beside his four-piece band. And performed ‘Don’t Think Jesus’, followed by his chart-topping single, ‘Wasted on You’.

Wallen won the top country artist shortly after his performance. And in accepting the award, he thanked his mother for joining him at the ceremony. But he made no mention of the incident that prompted the music industry to reprimand him.

Furious fans took to social media to protest against the musician’s booking. Especially in light of the racially motivated Buffalo shooting, which took place this weekend.

“F*** Morgan Wallen and this Jim Crow music,” one user wrote. “With what just happened in Buffalo, we could have cut him from the lineup. That’s the problem now, we always give out second chances for MFs to play in our faces.”

Travis Scott was performing for the first time on television since a massive crowd surge. At his Astroworld Festival in Houston in November 2021 killed ten people and injured thousands more.

The rapper performed his track ‘Mafia’ in a tightly edited, chilly, polar-themed pre-recorded set.

In my opinion, singers who have lawsuits against them for endangering lives at their concerts. Along with singers who use racial slurs in their songs should not be a cause of celebration. And not given money to perform at the Billboard Awards.
