Aran Sweaters: The History and Myth Busting

The Aran sweater has a long history and culture. The first written record of an ‘Aran sweater’ or geansai as we call them in Ireland was in; 1940 where the knitting patterns were first shared in a magazine. What once began as a functional solution for Aran Island fishermen going out on the rough and cold Atlantic, is now an iconic fashion item.
